2022 Muscat Ottonel

This wine is a departure from the traditional method we use when processing white grapes. In our second season working with this fruit we took the opportunity to try a carbonic fermentation, which we have done only once in the past with Gewurztraminer grapes from Arete Vineyard. Carbonic fermentation often yields very particular fruit flavors and aromas, and due to the dynamic profile of Muscat Ottonel we wanted to see how this grape would respond. The result was more savory than fruity and with a bit of skin and stem contact during this process there is more of a forest floor earthiness about the wine. It is a unique expression, one particularly well suited for adventurous tasters.

This is the bottle we reach for on days when it's just too nice out to do anything other than lay by the river. The tropical aromas are subdued but still present, and give way to citrus and peach blossoms. On the palate, familiar flavors of white tea and citra hops makes this wine a great alternative to an IPA, and would pair equally as well with burgers or fried chicken.
