Summer 2023
We have been working with Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir from the Gorge for many years, but we have never made a wine quite like this. The 2022 Vin Gris is a blend of direct pressed Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, with a small portion of Pinot Gris getting some contact for color, texture and tannin. This wine was picked for high acid and it has it, creating a super refreshing expression. It was fermented in a combination of concrete, oak and stainless steel, with each vessel contributing to a multidimensional wine. I'm excited to release a super refreshing, truly natural wine, made with organically farmed grapes, fermented naturally, and with zero additives, save for about 25 ppm of So2 at bottling.
Both varietals bring their very best to this wine. The Pinot Noir packs a fruity punch, with the Pinot Gris offering a gentle component of white tea and just ripe melon rind. The end result is a delightful rosé with satisfying texture (thanks to some neutral oak aging) and boundless food pairing options. When taking a sip outside, you're transported to a place where fresh pineapples slices are served with every meal, and the smell of sweet and savory BBQ is wafting through the air. We dream of opening this bottle with a big plate of Huli-Huli chicken at sunset.
