2022 was a wild year — a late spring blizzard at bud break, slow early growth, then real summer heat followed by a warm, steady fall. In the end, the fruit came in beautifully balanced with great structure and depth. This Cabernet Sauvignon from Hedges on Red Mountain shows the power the site is known for, but with freshness and lift thanks to the longer season and even ripening. We kept the winemaking simple — native fermentation, gentle punchdowns, aging in 20% new oak.
Not at all shy on the nose, it’s aromatic with huckleberry, blackberry, raspberry, and black currant, lifted by a fresh hint of mint. On the palate, cassis and vanilla provide richness while green bell pepper and mixed olive tapenade add a super seductive savory and herbaceous counterpoint. Tannins are well-balanced and smooth, with a polished, generous finish.
